Finding Your Way Back Home

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walks in the law of the Lord!” Psalm 119:1 NKJV

Take note of the exclamation point at the end of the sentence. This was expressed with much joy. We could as well say that the psalmist was enjoying declaring every single word in this psalm! Why do you think so?

What this is impressing on me is the fact that there is much joy to be experienced when a person is at the center of God’s will in his/her life. It feels like saying, “Finally, I’m home.”

Home is where God is.

Whenever I choose to do things my own way, I am simply like the prodigal son who demanded to be just left alone with what he wants to do with his own life. Sure he enjoyed having riches, friends, and fun. But in the long run, he lost everything. He was alone, suffering, and depressed. Only when he went back home did he find true joy — he was back in his father’s arms (Luke 15:11-32).

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36 NKJV)

My friend, are you feeling hopeless? Are you restless? Have you been feeling empty and numb? Are you exhausted and fed up with the world and its people? Are you constantly fearing and worrying? My friend, home is where God is. You can choose to walk back home. You are never too far gone; God is always waiting for you at the doorstep of His house.

And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)

There is no joy and peace comparable with being right with God, our Father. His son, Jesus Christ has given us the direct access to come to God as His sons and daughters. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross has lifted from us the punishment and burden of sin, and His resurrection from the grave is the evidence that He is God and that every word He uttered is true. Death has no sting, Jesus has conquered it and has given us the way into having a life on earth, and life eternal, spent with God.

Come back home.
